Kerri-Anne Kennerley trashes ‘sad’ Meghan Markle amid Royal Family feud

Australian TV doyenne Kerri-Anne Kennerley has targeted Meghan Markle for repeatedly criticizing the company in interviews since she stepped down as frontline royal.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have shaken up the royal family with a series of ‘truth bombs’ that portray Prince Harry’s closest relatives as indifferent and even racist at a time when Meghan was pregnant and struggling to control the press.

They saved their most stinging attacks on the Windsors for an all-encompassing interview with Oprah Winfrey that aired last March — a decision Kennerley found “very sad.”

‘I think it’s very, very sad that’ [Meghan] wash dirty laundry in public,” she told the Daily Mail Australia. “I … I would never do that to my family.”

Kennerley continued: ‘Meghan seems to think the world should know all the ins and outs and very personal things that are said within family walls.

“Whether you’re a royal or not, it’s deeply personal things in a family.”

Kennerley suggested the interviews were “clearly” done for money. (Meghan and Harry have said they were not paid for their interview with Winfrey.)

“You shouldn’t go chattering,” the Logie Hall of Famer added, “unless it’s within your own four walls.

“I don’t care how much money she makes. It would be a shame in any family.”

Kennerley also noted that the royals were “raised differently” than ordinary people, so perhaps Meghan should try to be more understanding and slap her.

“It’s very hard to judge until you’ve been in their shoes for a while,” she explained.

“They were raised differently and that’s just the way it is. You cannot rewrite history.

‘I am determined not to rewrite history. You can observe and learn, appreciate and decide that this should never happen again. Or say, “Yes, we have to repeat that.”‘

“I don’t agree with why people think it’s okay to talk in public about deeply personal family issues. But that’s me personally,’ she said.

‘It’s actually quite simple. Don’t talk about your family!’

Kennerley then went on to address Meghan’s claim that an unnamed member of the royal family made a “racist” comment about her son Archie, now three, when she was pregnant.

The former Suits actress plunged the monarchy into crisis when she told Winfrey that the royal had raised “concerns” about Archie’s skin color before he was born.

“The suggestion of racism, to Oprah, about her baby’s skin color — you have to be very careful with those kinds of comments,” Kennerley said.

She added that most everyday people are curious about what a baby “will look like,” especially if one of the parents has red hair.

“It’s like, ‘Whose eye color are they going to get?” or what their skin color is… It’s not more racist than that. And Meghan made such a big deal of it,” she said.

“Any family that has a newborn baby will wonder who the child will look after.”

Kennerley is no stranger to the British monarchy, having met King Charles III – then Prince of Wales – and his then-wife Princess Diana during their tour of Australia in 1988.

At the time she presented Good Morning Australia on Channel 10.

The SpinalCure ambassador also weighed in on the Republican debate, which has intensified after the death of Queen Elizabeth II earlier this month.

She praised the Queen’s 70 years of service to the Commonwealth, but admitted she was ambivalent about Australia’s future as a constitutional monarchy.

“I’m not a Republican, but I’m not necessarily a monarchist,” she said.

“I have the greatest admiration for that woman whose dedication to service was truly astonishing. I also have great respect for the British Royal Family. Because for Great Britain it is not only tourism, but also its stability, its history.’

She said she would only vote for an Australian republic if she was “100 percent sure” that it would be a positive step for the country, “not a negative one.”
