The storms also made their way through central Texas, including Austin, with a thunderstorm warning in place as flooding hit the state.

Claire is caught up in the storms as she attempts to fly to the Cannes Film Festival, stuck in Austin with no luggage.

But she assured fans she was back safely at her hotel and said there were “worse things” than being stuck in the city as she criticized the poor behavior of people at the airport.

She wrote in a snippet of her newsletter on Instagram: “I was supposed to be on my way to Cannes right now, but after sitting on the tarmac for two hours thanks to an absolutely insane thunderstorm, we got off the plane and I’m back in my hotel room in Austin.

‘I don’t have a bag, but luckily I’m not standing in line tonight with 200 other people trying to get out of here.

‘Speaking of crazy: people really show you who they are when something goes wrong at the airport. Even the gate agent was feeling feisty tonight.

“I have to admit, my lip trembled *a little* as I unbuckled my seat belt and dragged my ass back onto the plane bridge, but then I reminded myself that there are worse things in life than being stuck in a cool city with a good book , a bath and a crisp glass of Pinot Grigio.’

The thunderstorms have caused power outages that could last for weeks in parts of Houston, an official warned after hurricane winds ripped through the city.

The intense storms knocked out electricity to nearly a million homes and businesses in the region and caused chaos by smashing windows and overturning vehicles.

Crews are still trying to determine the extent of damage from the storms and the number of casualties, with at least four deaths believed to have been reported.
