Kate Lawler leads back-to-school parents with refreshingly realistic videos after being bombarded with idealistic Instagram content

Kate Lawler has reassured parents that not everyone will give their child a perfect return to school.

The Big Brother star, who recently announced her return to reality show hosting, shared a refreshingly realistic video on Tuesday as she prepared for her five-year-old daughter Noa’s first day of school after the summer holidays.

Kate, 46, titled her Instagram post ‘Back to School: Type B Mum edition’ as she asked her 682,000 followers: ‘We’re meant to do this too because I didn’t buy anything but the wrong color shoes.’

Sitting on the floor of her utility room, next to a pile of laundry, the tired-looking star declared: “Don’t feel like a failure after seeing these videos of American moms reveling in their kids’ first day of school.”

“Just to let you know there are parents like me.”

She then launched into a long list of things she forgot to do, admitting: “I accidentally bought her navy blue shoes instead of black ones, she’ll just have to wear them, I don’t have time to buy any others.”

Kate added that she “used up this stain remover on her two summer dresses that are stained yellow instead of white.” We don’t have a dryer either, will they be ready tomorrow? Who knows.’

“I didn’t label anything, I didn’t get her white socks in time, I didn’t give her a swimming cap either.”

She also promised that there will be “no back to school paraphernalia in the kitchen when she comes down, no back to school banner, helium balloons, heart-shaped jelly sandwiches and there will certainly be no freshly baked peanut butter and banana muffins.”

“She gets a bowl of Cheerios, she puts a picture on the porch and then you get to work!” “See you at 3:15, darlings.”

Kate’s hilarious video resonated with her fans, with All Saints star Nicole Appleton among others commenting with laughing emojis.

Known for her candid Instagram posts, Kate recently admitted that she and her husband have had couples therapy twice during their month-long family vacation as parenthood has taken its toll on their marriage.

The TV presenter and Martin ‘Boj’ Bojtos, who married in June 2022, have struggled to navigate parental life since the birth of their daughter Noa in February 2021, but the sessions have taught them to ‘fiercely’ protect their relationship.

She explained that they focused on not letting the challenges of family life get between them in the aftermath of their therapy.

Kate posted a sweet video to Instagram last month – set to the Evren Hale song, Space Between Us – of herself and Martin cuddling on a beach with their dog behind them.

The 2002 Big Brother winner wrote of the segment: “I saw a quote that said, ‘If you can get through the phase of marriage where it’s all about the kids and work, you can get through anything…’

She admitted in the caption of the upload, “I know it’s not the same for everyone, but becoming parents is the hardest thing we’ve ever gone through as a couple.

‘During the month we were on holiday, we had relationship therapy twice. Over the past five years, speaking with Diana regularly has helped us more than words can describe.

‘And if there’s one thing I learned from these sessions, it’s this…

Kate and her husband Martin ‘Boj’ Bojtos welcomed Noa into the world in February 2021, and the couple married in June the following year in a ceremony in Shoreditch, East London.

“Always remember to protect your relationship as fiercely as you protect your family, because one day the chaos will disappear and it will be just the two of you again.”

Kate’s fans praised her honesty in the comments section of the post, as one wrote: “Thank you Kate, so true, navigating the highs and lows, grateful for your authenticity (sic).”

Kate and Martin met at the Kerrang! Awards in London, and he popped the question during a romantic getaway to Bruges, Belgium, in April 2018.
