Deschamps named Benzema in the 26-man squad for the Qatar competition. He traveled with the team and took part in their first full training session.

However, Benzema’s session in the Middle East came to an early end after he suffered a thigh injury.

France confirmed Benzema would be unable to compete in the World Cup, claiming he had suffered a serious injury that would rule him out for at least three weeks.

Benzema traveled back to Real Madrid to begin the rehabilitation process and he was said to be making good progress.

However, it is unlikely that the 34-year-old will be back in time to compete in the World Cup. Although, he will get a medal if France wins the tournament.
