Met Gala 2024: NBA star Ben Simmons roasted for turning up to star-studded bash in clock outfit after missing most of the season

Brooklyn Nets star Ben Simmons arrived at the Met Gala wearing an interesting outfit — and the internet raged at him for being a little too edgy.

Simmons arrived at this year’s spring gala with the theme “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.”

Simmons donned a jacket and coat with a plaid pattern on the top, accented with rings, a watch and a briefcase with a huge clock on it.

Sports fans praised Simmons for his style choice, especially after the Nets star played just 15 games this NBA season. He missed the first 38 games of the season and then played until early March before being ruled out for the rest of the season due to a nerve impact in his lower back.

Social media especially hit the clock case, with many mocking Simmons for missing too much time in recent seasons.

“Ben Simmons spent more time on the red carpet at the Met Gala this year than on the court,” wrote the official report from Barstool Sports.

The official account of third-party ticket seller TickPick wrote: “Bag has clocked more than Ben this season.”

“Wearing a clock while not getting any minutes this season is insane,” one Twitter user wrote.

Another person wrote: ‘Getting paid 50 million next year just to sit… Biggest robbery in US history…’

“Not showing up for NBA games but coming to the Met gala,” said another user.

Another user wrote, “Bro does everything but play basketball.”

Notably, Simmons sat out the entire 2021-2022 season before being traded from Philadelphia, but when he arrived in Brooklyn he was too injured to play.

Of the 196 games in which Simmons has been a member of the Nets, he has only played in 57 games.
