John Carpenter has a new Left 4 Dead-like game with zombies that ‘blow up real good’

A fun fact you may not know about horror movie director John Carpenter (Halloween, The thing) is that he is also a gamer. It’s not uncommon for Carpenter to tweet thoughts about a recent game he’s enjoying, but now he’s putting his name to an upcoming co-op first-person shooter called Jan Carpenter‘s Toxic command for PlayStation 5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X.

John Carpenter’s Poison Command is a collaboration between Focus Entertainment, Saber Interactive (the developer behind World War Z: aftermath), and Carpenter himself. As Carpenter himself said in a press release, “Look, I really like shooting zombies. They keep telling me they are called “the infected.” Please. They’re ghosts, dude. They inflate really well and there are a ton of them. People are going to love this game.”

Toxic command games pits the titular commandos against hordes of mutated monsters in the middle of a supernatural outbreak. Toxic command takes place in a world ruled by a terrifying eldritch Sludge God, who plagues the land with scum and undead monsters. Instead of using soap and water, the players use guns, trucks and katanas to clean up this mess.

The reveal trailer was shown during the Summer Game Fest live showcase, which shows the commandos mowing down some nasty beasts while singing along to Bon Jovi. It seems that due to this huge, Left 4 Dead-style combat both on foot and with heavily armored vehicles. It also seems that there are special monster mutations that require different tactics to take them out.
