James Corden admits it’s ‘terrifying’ to leave the Late Late Show as he reveals why he’s moving home

In April he announced that he would be stepping down at the end of his eighth series and returning to the UK with his family.

And on Friday, James Corden appeared on CBS’s The Morning Show, where admitted it’s ‘scary’ to leave the Late Late Show when he revealed he’s moving back to the UK because there are ‘people at home who are getting old’.

The 44-year-old talk show host explained how he is “excited and scared” about his future as he returns to the world of acting with a leading role in the new series Mammals, which he is also executive producing.

On how he feels about the future, he admitted, “I feel excited and scared, that it’s probably the right place to be because you’re jumping into the unknown.”

“It’s such an amazing job, it’s the best eight years of my life and it’s given me more than I ever dreamed it could be,” she gushed about her Late Late Show.

‘Our intention is to come out the way we came in. We have some really big things planned. I’ll say it now, I’ll be a mess on the last show, I won’t be able to stick together.

“But the reason for leaving is that we are a long way from home in Los Angeles, and there are people back home who are getting older and we want our children to meet them and be close to them.

“I think anyone who has children knows that feeling of wanting to put down roots in a place where your family will be.

‘Look, it’s scary, who walks away from such a thing? But at the same time filming a series like Mammals made me think that maybe there are other things that I’m capable of.

James and his television producer Julia Carey, 46, are preparing to leave Los Angeles and return to their native UK, with their children Max, 11, Carey, eight, and Charlotte, four.

In October, James said The times that she fondly remembers her own childhood and did not want to miss out on those precious years with her own children, so she decided to leave The Late Late Show.

He explained: ‘We had to cancel last year’s summer vacation [because of work clashes] and when I told Max, he looked very sad, and I had this sudden revelation of mathematics.

We only have six more summers with the kids, before they start wanting to go off with their mates, six if we’re lucky. She knew she couldn’t do that again. So that’s why I quit.

The Late Late Show, which he films from Los Angeles, first premiered in 1995 with host Tom Snyder. Craig Kilborn and Craig Ferguson continued to host until James Corden arrived in 2015.

James vowed to ‘go out big’ as he informed the public of his decision to step down as host of The Late Late Show.

Breaking the news during an episode of the American talk show in April, he said the show had “changed his life” and vowed there would be “a lot of tears” when his term ended.

He said: ‘Seven and a half years ago I started hosting this show and there’s no other way to put it, it has changed my life.

“I never saw it as my final destination, and I never want this show to stick around longer than expected, I love doing it and I really think a year from now will be a good time to move on and see what’s out there.” ‘

He added: ‘We are all determined to make this the best year we’ve ever had… we’re going to go out with a bang. The fact that you see this… all over the world… is an absolute privilege for me and for all the people who make this show.’
