A customer service representative at Wollstonecraft train station on Sydney’s North Shore went to collect litter, but it turned out to be something much stranger.
The worker named Daniel picked up what appeared to be a commuter’s catch of the day, as they had left a dead fish in a plastic bag with an ice pack in it at the station.
They were stunned by the find but posted about the incident online, sending hundreds into hysterics and prompting many to share their best fishing-related puns.
“Mate, we think you’re traveling on the wrong mode of transport… We’ve found some strange things on our trains, but this one was outrageous!” Read one after to the Transport for NSW Facebook page.
“It was a 30+ degree day and without Daniel’s interception it could have been train station sashimi for everyone.”

The funny post left many scratching their heads, while others were confused about the ‘random’ lost property.
“Looks like the station cat is well fed tonight,” said one man and another replied, “Well saved!”.
“Imagine coming home and cooking a nice fish dinner, only to realize you left it on the train,” laughed a third.
“I’ll never forget the day Hubby was refereeing a football game and a pelican dropped a fish on the field,” another recalled.
Many took the opportunity to dish out their best puns, with one man joking about the fish: ‘Catching the train to Gillford’.
“I think he wanted to go fishing,” a second joked, and a third said: “Don’t FISHcriminate! He really had to go to SCHOOL!’.
“I hope they don’t cut back on services!” someone wrote.
“Well it’s oh-fish-ial, they’re traveling on trains in Sydney now,” one user added.
