Several of The Crown’s stars, as well as its creator, have been delighted to receive the highest accolades from members of the royal family, despite playing key roles in the insensitive new series.

When he received the award at an inauguration at Windsor Castle led by Princess Anne, he said: ‘The art reminds people to be kinder, more understanding, questioning and more empathetic. It shows how important debate and tolerance are.’
