Parents who wish to qualify for the Commonwealth’s comprehensive parental pay scheme may be assessed on their combined income.
The Albanian government has released details about its ‘family-friendly’ budget, including the extension of the paid parental leave scheme from 20 to 26 weeks.
Parents who hoped to access paid parental leave through the Commonwealth have previously been rated on their individual income.
Starting July next year, parents will be assessed on a dual income basis, with $350,000 the combined limit and 180,000 families benefiting.

In the last election, the previous coalition government also promised to change income limits.
Shadow treasurer Angus Taylor said the changes in the income threshold would increase the employment rate of women who are the main breadwinners.
“That’s extremely good news,” he told ABC News.
Under the new scheme, parents will be able to take their leave at the same time and the rules will be amended to make it easier for those whose partners do not meet the residency requirements to access the scheme.
The government will also invest $12.4 million in playgroups and toy libraries as part of its budget support for families.

Labor has also pledged to increase Commonwealth childcare subsidies for most families.
Treasurer Jim Chalmers told Sky News on Sunday that “the biggest new investment, childcare, is central to a family-friendly budget.”
“But we also need to make sure we get paid parental leave so that families can better manage their work and family responsibilities,” he said.
