Gary Oldman says the next James Bond has already been chosen and audiences will find out soon.
The Slow Horses actor, 68, made the claim while speaking about his Apple TV+ co-star on Canada’s The Morning Show Friday, adding that he is rooting for Jack Lowden.
“There’s a rumor he’s on the shortlist,” Oldman told the host. “We’ll find out soon, won’t we?” Because they picked him.”
The Oscar winner clarified, “They have made their choice, but they haven’t announced it yet.”
Lowden has been tipped as a frontrunner to play the next James Bond, with 007 producers reportedly ‘strongly considering’ the star.
Speculation about who will take over from Daniel Craig has been rife for months and recently increased after Amazon MGM Studios announced in May that auditions would finally take place.

Presenter Richard Osman has now teased that he has been told who is likely to take on the role.
Speaking to his co-host Marina Hyde on the latest episode of his podcast The Rest Is Entertainment, Osman said: ‘Someone recently told me for sure who the next Bond is, but I mean, that’s happened before. The name I heard is Jack Lowden.’
Richard warned: “It’s definitely not a ‘he definitely has it’ thing. It’s definitely being heavily considered. I think he’d be great.’
Marina agreed, pointing out that at 36, Lowden is “at a good age.” You have to have the longevity. They need to make at least two films, and he’s a good age for it.’
Osman said the actor has “real Daniel Craig energy,” adding that he is “such a brilliant actor.” Can be funny, can definitely take action. I mean, I think he would be sensational.”
Lowden, who also starred in Christopher Nolan’s epic Dunkirk, will star as another protagonist, Mr Darcy, in Netflix’s anticipated Pride And Prejudice adaptation, set to hit the streamer later this year.
Lowden’s wife, 32-year-old actress Saoirse Ronan, previously backed her husband for the role of 007.

When she co-hosted a BBC Radio 2 show with Scottish DJ Edith Bowman in 2024, Bowman put forward her belief that Lowden would be a good choice for the iconic role, adding that she had been making a similar argument for years.
In response, Ronan said, “I’m going to count how many times you plug it into the radio for Bond.”
When Bowman replied that she had been doing this for six years, Ronan responded: “But that hasn’t happened yet,” before adding: “There’s time, there’s time.”
In the meantime, she can see herself as a villain in the franchise.
