Franck Ribery is set to announce his retirement from football, according to reports.

The 39-year-old Bayern Munich legend has been sidelined from Salernitana since August due to knee problems and has decided to take time out for his glittering career.

Ribery won nine Bundesliga titles and a Champions League during his time in Germany, where he represented Bayern between 2007 and 2019.

Despite initially planning to play into his forties, the French winger suffered from frequent cartilage problems and growing pains in his knees. L’Equipe.

Ribery’s final minutes in professional football came during a second-half cameo against Roma in August.

Seven days earlier, he wore the captain’s armband in Salernitana’s 2-0 defeat to Parma in the Coppa Italia.

Ribery left the German top flight three years ago to join Fiorentina before moving on to the other Serie A outfit in 2021.

The Frenchman helped lead Salernitana away from relegation last season, when the newly promoted side launched an unlikely survival bid.

He will remain an ambassador at the club until the end of the season.
