Celtic icon Shunsuke Nakamura is ready to hang up his boots, 13 years after he left the Glasgow giants.

The midfielder, now 44 years old, incredibly still practices his profession with Japan’s Yokohama FC, but according to the Japanese times will draw the curtain over his career at the end of their season.

That campaign comes to an end this weekend and Nakamura will bow in style after helping to promote his team to the J1 League.

Nakamura spent four memorable years at Celtic, where he won three Scottish titles

Nakamura was signed by Gordon Strachan in 2005 and moved to Celtic in a £2.5 million deal from Italian side Reggina.

In four seasons, the Japanese star won three SPL titles, a Scottish Cup and two League Cups, making 166 appearances for the club and scoring 34 goals.

The Japan international was known for his determination, scoring two memorable free kicks for the Glasgow club in the Champions League against Manchester United.

After leaving Celtic in 2009, Nakamura moved to Espanyol before returning to Yokohama Mariners and later Jubilo Iwata in the J1 League.

During a 26-year career, he earned 98 caps for Japan, scored 24 goals and was part of the national team at the 2006 World Cup.

Nakamura made another attempt as an international in 2010 and is now ending his domestic career with Yokohama FC, the club he signed for in 2019.
