Florence Pugh has transformed herself into a villainous anti-heroine in the first trailer for her new Netflix series East Of Eden.
Based on John Steinbeck’s 1952 classic novel of the same name, the suspense drama series premieres October 1.
Florence, 30, plays main character Cathy Ames, the series’ scheming antihero, whose character is married to Adam Trask (Christopher Abbott).
As the trailer opens, Florence begins, “A monster is a variation on the accepted normal. A child can be born perfect, but without kindness or conscience.”
The chilling trailer shows the drama spanning decades, from the American Civil War to World War I.
The character of Florence warns, “Evil is not always apparent at first glance; it may be cloaked in beauty, goodness, or blood.”

Later in the trailer, Adam’s brother Charles (Mike Faist) warns, “She’s going to tear you to pieces and I don’t want to watch it.”
As it draws to a close, Cathy adds, “To a monster, the norm must seem monstrous.”
The new series has been adapted by Zoe Kazan, whose grandfather Elia directed the 1955 film adaptation of the novel.
Zoe said of her decision to choose Florence: “I had no backup.
“I didn’t have another person who I thought would be as good. She is exactly the right person to play Cathy.
‘Her awareness of the camera is unparalleled. I don’t use this word lightly: I think she’s a genius. I saw her on set for five months. I now have no more insight into how she works than before.
“I can see how hard she works, and I can see how much it means to her, but there’s no clear preparation or process visible to me at least.”
The new series comes after Florence scooped £10million amid rumors she is in line to play Miss Moneypenny in a Bond spin-off.
The Oppenheimer actress’s latest accounts for Flo Pug, the company the Oxford-born star pays her earnings to, reveal it made £6million in profits last year.
With Flo Pug’s earnings now at £116,000 per week, this means total earnings will rise to £9.9 million.
Florence has £10.8m in the business, before accounts. She’s starring in a stellar string of film releases this year, with roles in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Avengers: Doomsday, Dune: Part Three and East Of Eden.

She is also tipped to star in TV spin-off The Moneypenny Diaries on Prime Video, after Amazon bought the rights to 007.
The series is said to be based on the books of the same name by Samantha Weinberg, under the pseudonym Kate Westbrook, which were published between 2005 and 2008.
The actress’ successes come after she admitted she is taking time to ‘stop and recharge’ and hinted she is considering taking a break from acting.
She told Elle Spain last month that she thought taking a break would help her career in the long term, adding: ‘Taking care of myself. It’s that simple. Being able to breathe. For a long time I said I should slow down, but the truth is I never did.
“I ended up burning myself out. Now I spend more time with my family and friends.
‘I have to recharge to continue to fulfill such demanding roles. So for me, success means that I have learned to stop.’
