Fantastic fangs and where to whiten them! Johnny Depp bares his yellowing teeth at Jeanne du Barry premiere – after fans trolled Hollywood legend for poor dental hygiene

He once joked about the dismal state of his teeth at the height of his Hollywood fame in the 1990s.

Johnny Depp, now considerably older, was clearly none the wiser on Monday night as he revealed a set of yellowed teeth that only Captain Jack Sparrow could be proud of.

The American star, 60, was clearly in good spirits as he greeted fans at The Curzon Mayfair at the UK premiere of his French-language romp Jeanne Du Barry – almost a year after it entered competition at the Cannes Film Festival.

But as he grinned, Johnny’s nicotine-stained teeth were on full display – after fans mocked him for poor dental hygiene while promoting the film in Cannes last May.

Johnny bragged about the dismal state of his teeth in a 1995 Premiere magazine interview, which resurfaced last year, admitting he had “a lot of cavities.”

The comments were unearthed by Page six following Johnny’s performance at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, prompting fans to troll him for his ‘rotten’ gnashers.

In the Premiere article, Johnny stated, “I have a lot of cavities. Eight years ago I had a root canal treatment done that is not yet complete. It looks like a rotten stump.’

He insisted, “But I like it. It’s as if the Indians were making something with beads, always adding imperfections to it.”

Johnny, who was 31 at the time of the interview, pointed to his uneven lower teeth and said, “I’m proud of this.”

The Edward Scissorhands star added: “When I see people with perfect teeth it drives me up a wall. I’d rather swallow a tick than that!’

His interviewer was amazed that he managed not to have smelly breath – despite his dental condition and the cigarettes and wine he had just indulged in.

Fans said he looked like Captain Jack Sparrow when he flashed his ‘rotten’ smile at his comeback launch at Cannes 2023.

The actor received a seven-minute standing ovation at the premiere of his film Jeanne du Barry after his ex-wife Amber Heard was ordered to pay £6.4 million in damages during his successful trial.

But fans couldn’t help but notice the actor’s smile and how his brown teeth showed visible signs of decay as he posed for photographers on the red carpet.

Johnny recently signed a £16million perfume deal with Dior, thanks to his striking looks and charm.

But unlike many Hollywood stars, the actor has avoided spending thousands of pounds on pearly white veneers or expensive composite joints.

Johnny is known for transforming his smile depending on the roles he plays. For Pirates of the Caribbean, he had an elaborate gold covering for his teeth.

He held onto the gold caps until filming concluded on the third installment of the franchise.

Johnny has also been open about his battle with substance abuse, telling the court during the defamation trial that at the age of 14 he had tried “every kind of drug known to man.”

Drug use can erode tooth enamel and expose the underlying dentin to decay-causing bacteria.

Before the premiere of Jeanne Du Barry, Johnny showed affection for his co-star Maiwenn.

The actor, who is trying to make a comeback with his first film in four years, wore a long gray coat with a black suit underneath for the premiere.

While lovingly holding Maiwenn, Johnny gave a very serious expression in many of the photos, assuming an equally serious pose.
