Erik ten Hag has banned three newspapers from asking questions at his press conference on Friday after criticizing the ‘disrespectful’ nature of their reporting following Manchester United’s FA Cup penalty shootout victory over Coventry.

The Dutchman did not want to hear questions from The Sun, Manchester Evening News and The Mirror in the run-up to the match between Manchester United and Burnley on Saturday.

Ten Hag is under scrutiny ahead of the summer, with new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS weighing up whether to sack the Red Devils boss after another disappointing campaign at Old Trafford.

United overtook Championship club Coventry to reach the FA Cup final last weekend, squandering a 3-0 lead before eventually coming through on penalties at Wembley.

Coventry thought they had secured victory in the final stages of extra time before their late goal was disallowed for marginal offside in the build-up.

Ten Hag was furious with journalists after United won 4-2 against Sheffield United on Wednesday

Ten Hag, whose team was heavily criticized by pundits and fans after the match, fought for the Red Devils’ 4-2 victory over Sheffield United on Tuesday. He called the reaction to his team’s scare at Wembley ’embarrassing’ and ‘a disgrace’

According to The Telegraph on Thursday, Ten Hag found some of the criticism and reporting about Sunday’s display, plus his future as United boss, disrespectful. His angry response also included social media posts during the match by journalists.

For example, MEN’s United reporter Samuel Luckhurst posted on social media platform X during extra time at Wembley on Sunday: ‘Ten Hag cannot survive this. He has to leave as soon as possible. #mufc.”

The several journalists who had upset the Dutchman were admitted to his post-match press conference after Wednesday’s victory over Sheffield United, but were not given the opportunity to question Ten Hag.

Still furious about the disrespect shown to him and his team, Ten Hag continued to ban journalists – and their respective publications – from asking questions at Friday’s press conference.

United are sixth in the Premier League ahead of Saturday’s clash with Burnley, seven points behind Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham above them.

Former England and Newcastle star Alan Shearer suggested after the Wembley win over Coventry that INEOS had ‘already made a decision’ on Ten Hag and were prepared to sack him at the end of the season.
