‘Officially En-GAY-ged!’ Doctor Who star Pearl Mackie celebrates her engagement with a huge party seven months after popping the question to her girlfriend

Pearl Mackie partied with friends and family last weekend, celebrating her recent engagement to her girlfriend Kam.

The Doctor Who star, 35, popped the question back in January, but announced she felt ‘officially En-GAY-ged’ as she shared a series of photos from the couple’s engagement party.

Pearl, who played Bill Potts on Doctor Who, gushed that ‘Saturday was probably my favourite day ever’ as she cuddled up to her wife-to-be in the fun photos.

Pearl looked gorgeous in an orange sun dress and matching sunglasses as she wrapped her arms around her beaming fiancée in the Insta snap. 

‘Officially En-GAY-ged! ❤️’ she gushed. ‘Saturday was probably my favourite day ever. I didn’t know a day could be filled with so much love, friendship, fun, good food and beautiful people!’

‘Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone that helped us get this show on the road and there were a LOT!’

The couple celebrated their engagement with a street party near their London home, with Pearl thanking their friends and neighbours for helping with the food and set-up on the day.

Pearl also paid tribute to her mother as she gushed: ‘A big thank you to my mama for your beautiful speech and for being queen of the gays (in case anyone was wondering where I got it from!)’

‘Thank you to our wonderful friends and family for being with us to celebrate our love, and for all your beautiful flowers, cards, gifts and kind words on Saturday. You mean the world to us.’

Pearl ended her post with some loving words for her wife-to-be, writing: ‘Mostly I’d like to thank you my darling, my love, my Kam.’

‘You are my favourite person in the world, thank you for agreeing to be my wife and hold my hand through this thing called life.’

‘I love you forever! ❤️‍ Guess we should start planning the wedding….? ❤️’

Back in January Pearl shared a photo of the couple’s matching rings after she proposed, as she asked her followers: ‘Be honest, how many of you had bets on this happening?’

‘Yup, we’re En-GAY-ged!!! @kmchhkr I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL YOU’RE MY WIFE!.’

In July 2020 Pearl came out as bisexual in a powerful social media post to celebrate Pride. 

The actress declared she is ‘proud to be bisexual and proud to be black’ as she held a rainbow cushion in a montage of photos posted to her Instagram.  

Pearl made history when she played Bill Potts in Doctor Who- the first ever female LGBTQ+ Doctor Who companion – alongside Peter Capaldi.

The actress was Peter’s companion in his final series, which ended with the character travelling around galaxies with her girlfriend Heather.
