Dancing On Ice’s Adele Roberts shares heartbreaking news her ‘beautiful’ mother Jackie has died

Adele Roberts has revealed that her ‘beautiful’ mother Jackie Roberts passed away on Sunday.

The Dancing On Ice star, 44, shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram following her ’emotional’ performance on the ITV skating show earlier in the evening.

She wrote: ‘For you mom. Tonight’s performance was dedicated to the memory of my beautiful mother, Jackie Roberts. 01.09.62 – 04.01.24

“I didn’t want to say anything until I got through our routine tonight. So apologies if it seemed like I was being overly emotional.

‘My heart is broken and I miss my mother so much. Saying goodbye to her this week was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. My mom got to see the beginning of our routine… and tonight I wanted to finish it in her honor.

‘To my family. Thank you for holding my head up and giving me the strength to keep going. Thanks also to all the wonderful people who came to help us say goodbye to her this week. You brought us so much comfort while you were by our side.

‘Thank you to the whole incredible Dancing On Ice team for guiding me through one of the toughest weeks of my life. Especially you.

I know how much you wanted to help me make my mother proud and I know it would have been on your mind all night long. You are great.

‘Thank you for teaching me to dance, to skate and the joy of expressing emotions through my body. Your sport is so beautiful. I still can’t believe it happened tonight.

‘Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far. We are absolutely impressed by your encouragement and kindness. Mark and I are truly grateful and we promise to continue to do our best and give it 100%

“And to my biggest supporter from day one: my amazing mother. Good night my love.

‘I will think of you and miss you every day of my life. Forever my hero. Until we meet again

She wowed the Dancing On Ice judges on Sunday night and achieved the highest score of the series so far.

The DJ, 44, broke down in tears as the judges announced her score of 27.5 for her debut routine with partner Mark Hanretty.

Adele gave an emotional introduction to the show, calling her reason for taking part ‘a celebration of life’ after her battle with bowel cancer.

The pair skated to the song Clear by Grace VanderWaal, but there was one shaky moment when Mark slipped on the ice and fell briefly.

Judge Christopher Dean joked about the fall during his scoring, saying he gave Adele 7.0 and Mark 6.0.

Adele’s friend Kate Holderness was in tears as she and others gave the couple a standing ovation.

Commenting on her emotional performance, she said: ‘What an absolute dream, everything I’ve been through was worth it in this moment.’

In their pre-routine VT, Mark called Adele “inspirational,” as he explained, “I’ve never skated with someone who has an ostomy and literally has a hole in their stomach.”

Adele called her partner ‘a gentleman’ and explained that he must be friendly when he picks me up’.

Adele was first diagnosed with colon cancer in October 2021 and documented her treatment on social media, which included colostomy surgery to remove an intestinal tumor and the insertion of an ostomy bag.

As well as being a huge fan of the series, Adele said: ‘Another reason I wanted to do it too is so I can reclaim my body lately after what it’s been through.’

“I feel like it allows me to become who I am again.”

The former Radio 1 presenter also candidly discussed the precautions taken to allow her to perform on ice with her stoma.

Being new to the world of ostomies, I didn’t really know what to expect.I’ve come to the conclusion that Audrey – that’s what I call it – doesn’t like ice cream.’

‘She’s very quiet. Actually, she was a delight. I’ve noticed that because I have a hole on the right side of my torso, I no longer have a center where it used to be.”

Adele, who is linked to pro Mark Hanretty, admitted she had to relearn how to use her body and said rotating her diaphragm was still quite difficult.

“I really have to think about my movements on the ice, but it helped me connect with my body, so it was a blessing too.

In 2022, Adele was filmed at home with her partner Kate helping the star change her ostomy bag – a candid moment that was praised by viewers.

Adele revealed in an October 2021 Instagram post that she was diagnosed with stage 2 cancer and underwent colostomy surgery later that year to remove an intestinal tumor.

After Kate changed her ostomy bag, Adele told her friend: “I can’t believe I went to the toilet in front of you,” after which Kate told her: “I don’t see it that way,” explaining that she sees it the stoma as ‘a separate entity… it’s as if we were changing our baby.’

The end of the clip showed Adele thanking Kate for “accepting my new body” from the very beginning of her cancer journey.
