Taylor Fritz’s victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Australian Open is one of the most important of his career – and he didn’t let his influencer girlfriend forget the bet they made beforehand.
Fritz stormed past last year’s number two Stefanos Tsitsipas to reach the quarter-finals of the Australian Open for the first time after beating the Greek seventh seed 7-6(3) 5-7 6-3 6-3 at Melbourne Park on Sunday defeated.
The American twelfth seed arrived in Australia having never defeated a top 10 opponent at a Grand Slam and sealed a memorable victory with a clinical performance that equaled his best result at a major.
Fritz, a quarter-finalist at last year’s US Open and Wimbledon in 2022, sent down 13 aces and 50 winners as Tsitsipas’ frustration mounted, closing the match with a backhand winner in just over three hours.
Fritz’s influencer friend, Morgan Riddle, promised her 216,000 Instagram followers that she would eat an entire jar of Vegemite if he won the competition.

“If @taylor_fritz wins again I’ll eat a jar of vegemite live (Instagram),” she wrote.
Luckily, someone had a jar on hand after Fritz won and brought it to the field while he was being interviewed.
“My girlfriend thought I was too confident to win the match,” Fritz added as he handed over a pot.
‘This is a big pot, but a bet is a bet.
‘I tried, but I’m not the biggest fan, so I won’t participate.
“But I’ll make sure it happens.”
The tennis WAG gestured from the stands that she would prefer a much smaller pot than the one on offer.

Morgan uses her social media pages to document private jet flights, beach vacations, shopping trips around town and courtside seats as she travels the world to support her sports star boyfriend.
Fritz will next play Serbian superstar Novak Djokovic, a man he has never won against.
“A lot of these competitions happened when I was a little younger,” Fritz said.
“Since then I’ve improved and become a better player.
‘The times I’ve played against him I haven’t really reached my best level, and that’s necessary when you’re going to compete with someone like Novak.
‘I feel very confident. If I can play like I did (against Tsitispas), then I have a chance.”
