Cole Palmer returned to Cobham on Thursday after his absence during the midweek capitulation against Arsenal underlined how important he is to Chelsea.

The 21-year-old has been training with teammates after overcoming an illness that sidelined him. A trip to Aston Villa follows on Saturday as the Blues look to begin a late bid for a European spot.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino had urged his players to show they are not ‘Cole Palmer Football Club’ before facing Arsenal, but failed as they were beaten 5-0.

Palmer has been Chelsea’s main source of goals this season, scoring 20 goals in the Premier League since signing from Manchester City for £42.5 million last summer.

Pochettino will reveal more about Palmer’s fitness in his pre-match press conference on Friday.
