Tesla is lowering membership prices for its Supercharger network and opening membership to all EV drivers

  • Tesla Supercharger membership is now open to non-Tesla EV drivers
  • The monthly membership has been reduced for everyone from € 10.99 to € 8.99
  • 42 locations with 477 chargers are open to EV owners who do not have their own Tesla

Tesla has announced a new membership model for all customers of its Supercharger network, opening up the discount on fast charging rates to more electric car drivers.

Since April 13, all electric vehicle (EV) owners (Tesla or non-Tesla) can benefit from lower rates with Supercharger membership, aand the monthly membership fee has been reduced from £10.99 to £8.99.

Tesla owners automatically benefit from this discount, while non-Tesla EV drivers can choose to join the membership for the first time and take advantage of these lower rates.

Tesla Supercharger membership is now open to non-Tesla EV owners, who can now benefit from the same cheaper kWh charging rate as Tesla owners. Membership costs have also been reduced (for all EV owners who have already signed up, or are signing up from now) to just £8.99 per month

Tesla has 1,400 Supecharger locations in Britain and Ireland, 42 of which are open to non-Tesla drivers.

There are 477 chargers available across the 42 locations – from Fort William to Cardiff or Kettering – where other EV brands can now charge cheaply.

Until this announcement from Tesla, non-Tesla EV drivers would have to pay a higher kilowatt-hour price for charging than Tesla Supercharger members, but EVs with CCS charging could still charge at these locations.

And on top of the cheaper charging rates of £2 per month, Tesla is now offering all EV drivers (Tesla or not) a newly introduced annual membership option.

Electric car drivers can pay a flat fee of £90 per month and save around £18 per year on a Supercharger membership – a 16 per cent discount compared to a monthly membership.

Last year, Tesla unveiled its V4 Superchargers, which allow customers to use a contactless car payment system at the terminal and view live prices on the digital screens built into the charger.

Drivers using V3 Superchargers must still use the Tesla app.

Tesla Superchargers can add up to 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes, allowing people to top up very quickly on long drives.

The app must also be downloaded to version 4.32 before customers can take advantage of the new lower membership rate.

Tesla drivers’ access to the Supercharger network – the world’s largest fast-charging infrastructure – has long been seen as an envious advantage for EV owners, with lower fast and fast charging rates a draw for the Elon Musk-owned EV brand .

Tesla has also said it plans to add more Superchargers in the near future, and open more sites to non-Tesla EVs.
