Brits heading to Benidorm are being engulfed in fog on the beaches… while Britain sees beautiful sunny weather of 23 degrees!

Holidaymakers were left stunned when a beach in Benidorm disappeared into a thick fog, prompting Britons to rejoice at home as they basked in sunny 23 degrees Celsius weather.

Tracy Stocks and her husband decided to travel to Benidorm for some sea and sun, but the couple were left stunned when a thick fog appeared on Sunday, May 5, shrouding the beach when they were supposed to be soaking up the rays.

The 43-year-old assumed a fire had broken out in a nearby apartment but decided to stay on the beach to film the grisly sight, unlike most other holidaymakers who packed up and fled the strange phenomenon.

The caregiver shared video footage of the mysterious fog on Facebook with the caption “what happened” to see if anyone could help identify it.

The clip shows a dark gray mist covering the entire beach and surrounding the sunbathers. Some beachgoers are seen hastily packing their belongings.

Facebook users took to the comments and identified the mysterious cloud as a thick ‘sea fog’, which is caused by a temperature difference on land and water.

Other users joked about how sunny it was in Britain in comparison, with one user joking: ‘it’s lovely and sunny in Derby’.

The couple, who regularly travel to Benidorm, arrived on April 10 for a few weeks of relaxation, and Tracy revealed she had never experienced anything like the sea fog.

Tracy, who lives in Lincoln, Lincolnshire, said: ‘It was really strange. We were just sunbathing and we saw what we thought was smoke coming from the new town. It circled around us and we were in the middle of it.

‘Everyone ran down the beach. I didn’t know if it was smoke or what. I thought one of the apartments was on fire.

‘We just looked at it. We couldn’t see any buildings on the side or the rocks. It was just pure fog. We asked the locals what it was.

“Someone told us it was sea fog,” she said.

“Everyone had their cameras off and even the local restaurants came out and took out their phones to see what was going on. Quite a few of us ran away.

‘It’s something you would expect in Britain, but not in Benidorm. It was very bizarre.’

The 43-year-old revealed she usually goes to Benidorm to get some sun and a tan, and found it ‘ironic’ that people in Britain were experiencing a sunnier bank holiday than her.

Tracy posted the video on Facebook hoping someone would reveal to her what the mysterious smoke-like cloud was.

Tracy said: ‘My friends and family told us how hot it is in Britain. They were crackers. It normally rains in England when we are away. It was quite frustrating actually. But at least we have the beach close to us.

‘I sent pictures to friends and everyone asked what it was. We don’t have that in Lincoln.

‘I put the pictures up to see if anyone knew what it was. It was a little different.’

However, the eerie ‘sea fog’ hasn’t deterred the couple from Benidorm as while they fly back to Britain on May 12, they are currently trying to extend their stay.

Many users have taken to the comments to identify the strange fog.

One user said: ‘It’s just a sea fog. Chill out people.’ Another user said: ‘Oh sea mist, amazing to see.’ A third user said: ‘When cold air meets warm air.’

Other users joked about how warm and sunny it was in Britain, with one joking: ‘we in Britain borrowed the sun for a day.’
