Christian Brueckner whines that the bread in his prison food sandwiches is too thin and he has to take cold showers in court, moaning about being charged with rape

Shameless Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner took time out to complain about his food and lack of hot showers in a courtroom as he faces unrelated rape charges in Germany.

Convicted rapist and pedophile Brueckner (48) is currently serving seven years for the rape of an elderly American woman in the Portuguese Algarve in 2006.

He is now on trial again in Braunschweig, Germany, for a separate series of rapes and indecent assaults committed in the same area where then-three-year-old Madeleine disappeared in May 2007.

His lawyer Philipp Marquort told the hearing: ‘My client has not had a hot shower or a hot meal for three days. This is not acceptable.’

‘The last shower was Tuesday morning. And as for food, when he is here he only gets eight slices of the cheapest toast bread and there are always two as a sandwich and one side is a very thin slice of cheese and the other side is nothing,” he complained to the court . .

Brueckner is currently serving his time in the isolation wing of the high-security prison of Oldenburg, 210 kilometers from Braunschweig, but to avoid a lengthy commute on each court day he is instead housed in a prison in nearby Sehnde.

“Yesterday, when he got here, all he had was two small packages of turkey sausage and no bread at all. That is it. Each with only 250 calories,” Marquort told the court.

‘We demand that he gets a hot meal when he comes in here and that he is allowed to take a hot shower. If he has one here, it’s cold.”

Mr Marquort concludes: ‘Our client has asked us to make a complaint, and we have been emailing this for ten months, all the prison just provides him with a living and when he goes back to prison after court, he gets nothing.’

Judge Ute Insa Engemann told him she was “not responsible for the showers and food” but that she would “pass on his observations.”

Brueckner was sensationally named as the main suspect in the ‘kidnapping and murder’ of Madeleine in June 2020 by German police, but no charges have been brought against him since.

Brueckner denies involvement in the disappearance.

He is currently serving a rape sentence in the high-security prison of Oldenburg, 217 kilometers from Braunschweig.

To avoid a lengthy commute on every court day, he is currently housed in a prison in Sehnde, near Braunschweig.

But here his defense team says he is being fed an unacceptably low and insufficient amount of food.

“Our clients asked us to complain, and we’ve been emailing this for 10 months, all the prison is just providing him with a living and when he goes back to prison after court, he gets nothing at all,” Marquort said.

Last year, the main suspect in the Madeleine McCann case claimed he was treated worse than Nazis on trial for war crimes in a lengthy letter from prison.

In a letter from Oldenburg prison in Germany, obtained by The mirrormoaned Brueckner: ‘Even (Joseph) Goebbels and his war criminals were not isolated like me when they awaited the death penalty in Nuremberg prison.

‘It is against human rights to remain isolated for so long… It is the right of prisoners to receive visitors – except myself.

‘All I see are my lawyer and the guards. They say that if someone else visits me, I get sexual satisfaction.”

Nazi propaganda chief and Holocaust architect Goebbels committed suicide in May 1945 before he could be captured by Allied forces.

Brueckner is now on trial for raping a woman in Praia da Rocha in 2004, and abusing a teenage girl and a woman aged between 70 and 80 in Praia da Luz, where he lived between December 2000 and June 2006.

He is also accused of exposing himself and masturbating in front of children at least twice in Portugal, and of insulting prison staff in Germany.

Earlier this week, Irish former tour guide Hazel Behan, 40, told a court how she was tied up, beaten and brutally raped again and again by a masked perpetrator in her holiday apartment in Portugal in June 2004.

Ms Behan said she was convinced her rapist was Christian Brückner because of his German accent and his piercing blue eyes that were “bored into my skull”.

His current trial began in February and has heard witnesses who say they saw Brueckner in graphic sex tapes showing the rape of an older woman and a young girl.

Brueckner’s defense has tried several times to exclude witnesses, saying the case was unfair and biased against their client because of the link to Madeleine, but all attempts have failed so far.

The process continues.
