Britney Spears has reflected on the ‘damage’ she suffered during her life Conservatory of 13 years and how she was ‘forced’ to perform despite being ‘scared’.
The 44-year-old pop superstar stripped down to a black bra and skimpy panties in a new Instagram video on Thursday and reflected on how she “changed” from being “painfully shy” to having to perform in front of “so many people.”
In her caption, she wrote that at the beginning of her career, she would “get asthma and start shaking” if she met more than ten people.
Spears said her father, Jamie, would make her meet “70 people,” which she said would “literally hurt” and make her feel “like a robot.” She added that she was proud of herself for “stopping all that” because “it had been forced for too many years.”
Spears was placed under conservatorship in February 2008 after a series of mental health crises, hospitalizations and intense media scrutiny. The conservatory came to an end in 2021 after almost 14 years.
Her father, who was the primary conservator for most of her conservatorship, insisted his control over the star’s finances, career and personal freedoms was to protect her well-being, but his daughter previously claimed this was “abuse.”

The Daily Mail has reached out to Spears and her father’s representative for comment.
In her latest post, Spears started off with the caption discussing her racy outfit and her friend’s reaction to it.
‘My girlfriend said, “Why are you wearing a rock ‘n’ roll bra? That doesn’t suit you at all.” And she’s right. It’s not something I would wear as a bra at all, even though as a performer I did that every night for “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll,” she wrote.
‘Let’s just say that I have really changed a lot. I honestly can’t believe I used to be able to perform in front of so many people. Good lord,” she continued.
“I’m so sensitive and proud of myself that I stopped all that because it was forced for too many years.”
‘When I worked with Felicia in my early days, I developed asthma and started shaking if I had to meet more than ten people at a meet and greet. She saw in my eyes how scared I was going to be. My father made me meet seventy people at that time, I think. I lost the sensitivity of my soul. And it literally hurt. I felt like a robot.’
Spears went on to say that during that time she “lost a sacredness that I used to have towards people because I was secretly very sensitive and painfully shy.”
‘I miss my real relationships that I used to have with people. To be honest, I felt like a robot, a machine. And thank the Lord it’s over,” she wrote.

“I miss the way I respected people so much that there was a real mystery of acute unity when we were together, which was sacred,” she wrote.
“I feel like to this day people still don’t realize the real damage that was done to my heart and soul during the conservatorship.”
‘But it’s bizarre. I was painfully shy, but on stage I had to be someone else. But after I had kids, I think the game was more than exaggerated. I felt so stupid and ashamed.’
“I think it’s easier when you’re younger to go there,” she added.
“Anyway, this video is actually crazy because it’s identical to the ‘Gimme More’ video, but made with a version of me with six-year-old legs and looking much younger. Crazy.’
The star then wrote that she’s been “single for so long,” adding, “I haven’t really shown my body except once in my green swimsuit.”
‘You can see here that I am actually extremely small. For some reason I appear to have very long legs in paparazzi photos and in my living room. Maybe an illusion… the front of my house is the show stage!!!!! Yet I look very different backstage.’
The Toxic hitmaker went on to talk about her experience meeting Shakira, and how it made her feel ‘normal’.
“I remember when I first came to LA, I always felt like the youngest and smallest person in the room. Then I met Shakira and she was exactly my size. We were honestly twins. It was insane. Even more so than Christina, who is actually shorter than me.’
“I remember meeting Shakira for her ‘Whenever, Wherever’ video. She had all these cool braids and colors in her hair, and I had just woken up from a nap in the car, and she had just woken up from a nap in her trailer. Anyway, I finally felt normal.”
Spears has had a contentious relationship with her family members for years following the end of her conservatorship in November 2021.

The pop star has been dealing with very public personal struggles for almost two decades. In 2007, the star suffered a harrowing breakdown after exhibiting worrying behavior in the months leading up to her infamous psychiatric admission.
The then 25-year-old left fans concerned after she shaved her head and attacked a paparazzi’s car with a green umbrella before checking into rehab.
In January 2008, she was locked up in an institution after refusing to hand over her son to ex Kevin Federline. She shares sons Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden 19, with Federline.
Her father Jamie initially served as co-conservator after the conservatorship arrangement began in 2008, with attorney Andrew Wallet serving alongside him until 2019.
More recently, the singer was arrested on the evening of March 4 near her home in Ventura County, California, after police received an anonymous call about someone “driving at a high rate of speed and swerving” on the road.
Spears pleaded guilty to reckless driving in connection with the incident, and was sentenced to 12 months’ probation and one day in jail, credited as time served, as part of her plea deal.
She was also fined $571 and ordered to see a psychologist weekly and a psychiatrist twice a month. After the arrest, she spent three weeks in rehab.
