A 13-year-old was killed in a terrifying bus accident after sticking her head out the window and crashing into a pole.
Fernanda Pacheco was on her way home from school on a public transport bus when the tragic accident happened last Wednesday in the city of Nova Friburgo in Rio de Janeiro.
Witnesses said Pacheco was in the last row of the No. 1 bus. 491 when she peeked her head through the window on the left side as the vehicle moved, according to Brazilian news channel G1.
The bus drove down a narrow two-way street on Luis Catarcione Road, trying to avoid cars parked on the right, while the schoolgirl tried to wave to her classmates on a sidewalk.

Witnesses said the 13-year-old student was sitting in the last row of the public transport bus when she peered her head out of the vehicle to greet her school friends and crashed into a street pole in Brazil last Wednesday. The teen was pronounced dead at the scene by firefighters
Passengers on the bus immediately yelled at the driver, who stopped the bus and alerted authorities.
The fire department responded to an emergency call and pronounced Pacheco dead at the scene.
Pacheco was buried on Thursday after a private funeral service.
Rio de Janeiro’s Ministry of Education mourned Pacheco’s death.

“The Secretary of State for Education deeply regrets the accident that occurred on Wednesday with a student from Professor Carlos Côrtes State School in the Catarcione district of Nova Friburgo, on her way home,” the statement read.
Classes at Professor Carlos Côrtes State School were suspended for two days and resumed on Monday.
“We deeply regret the unexpected and tragic situation and reiterate that all company support teams are mobilized and committed to minimizing the inevitable inconvenience,” bus operator Nova Faol said in a statement.
