At least three students were injured in a knife attack in Sweden after two rival gangs fought at a sporting event, according to local media.

The students have been rushed to hospital after the stabbing at a sports facility in the town of Eskilstuna, police said TV4.

The TV station had initially reported that the attack took place at a school, but the headmaster later said the students were at a different location at the time of the incident.

“We know very little at this point,” said the headteacher. “It’s the students of the school who are in a different place.”

The students were reportedly on a school trip to the local sports facility when a fight broke out between two gangs.

“It is true that a serious crime is taking place in Eskilstuna,” a police spokesman said, adding that no arrests have been made.

The case is being classified as attempted murder, but police said they had no information on the severity of the injuries. So far no one has been arrested.
