Alec Baldwin will continue filming Rust in January 2023 after reaching a confidential settlement with murdered cameraman Halyna Hutchins’ husband.
Matthew Hutchins will executive produce the film and said he, the producers and Baldwin all agreed that his wife’s death was a “terrible accident.”
Halyna Hutchins was shot on the set of the film in October 2021 at Bonanza Creek Ranch, Santa Fe, New Mexico. Her family filed a wrongful death lawsuit in February.
Baldwin, 64, has always maintained that he didn’t pull the trigger and that the fault lies with the stunt managers and prop managers who should have made sure the gun was “cold” – empty of live bullets.
Santa Fe Sheriff’s Office has yet to charge anyone in Hutchins’ death.
Matthew Hutchins announced this morning: “We have reached a settlement, subject to court approval, for our wrongful death suit against the producers of Rust, including Alec Baldwin and Rust Movie Productions, LLC.
“As part of that settlement, our case will be dropped.
The shooting of Rust, which I will now executive produce, will resume in January 2023 with all of the original protagonists on board.

“I have no interest in blaming or blaming (to the producers or Mr. Baldwin). We all believe that Halyna’s death was a terrible accident.
“I’m grateful that the producers and the entertainment community have come together to pay tribute to Halyna’s latest work.”
Rust’s director Joel Souza paid tribute to Hutchins’ talent and creativity — saying the decision to continue working on the film for her legacy is “bittersweet.”
Souza added: “All my efforts for this film will be devoted to honoring Halyna’s legacy and making her proud. It’s a privilege to arrange this on her behalf.’
He said he wished he had worked with the cameraman under different circumstances, but that continuing the project would help him in his own healing process.
Alec Baldwin’s attorney, Luke Nikas of Quinn Emanuel, added: “Throughout this difficult process, everyone has maintained a specific desire to do what is best for Halyna’s son.
“We are grateful to everyone who has contributed to the resolution of this tragic and painful situation.”
Rust Movie Productions, LLC, through its attorney, Melina Spadone, said: “We are pleased that the parties have come together to resolve this matter, which, subject to court approval, is a significant step forward in celebrating Halyna’s life and honoring her work.’
