The future looks bright for nurses and solar photovoltaic installers.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics released new job projections Thursday, showing which positions will experience a massive employment decline and which could flourish between 2025 and 2035.
The jobs expected to grow the fastest over the next decade are a mix of healthcare, energy and technology work.
Nurses, who typically earn six figures, saw the highest percentage increase at 41%, much faster than the overall forecast of 3.5%. One reason for that expected demand is that in many states they can perform tasks previously reserved for physicians.
Two jobs related to renewable energy They are also expected to grow rapidly: solar photovoltaic installers had the second highest percentage increase, and wind turbine service technicians had the fourth highest percentage increase.
“As the cost of PV systems continues to decline, more households are expected to take advantage of these systems, resulting in greater demand for the workers who install and maintain them,” BLS said.
Employment of data scientists is expected to increase by about 35% as companies will need to hire workers to handle the expected increase in data use and collection. Computer and information researchers are also among the fastest growing jobs, in part to work on AI tools.

Typical education requirements vary among the top 12 jobs. BLS said solar photovoltaic installers typically need a high school diploma or equivalent to qualify. Nurses, computer and information researchers and physician assistants need more training. BLS said these jobs typically require a master’s degree for admission.
Overall, U.S. employment is expected to grow by 5.9 million people, or 3.5%, over the next decade, up from 10.9% growth from 2015 to 2025. The private healthcare and social assistance sector could be a great place for job seekers to look, as it is expected to add the most jobs, due to an aging population and an increase in chronic health conditions. The AI boom is expected to impact the utility sector as data centers continue to demand more and more electricity. BLS said the relatively small sector is expected to rise 10%, the fastest among major sectors.
