Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s address to Congress on Wednesday was welcomed by Americans on social media, many of whom commented on how well he spoke English.
Some also compared the non-native English speaker’s delivery to that of their own president, Joe Biden.
Podcast host Gerry Callahan wrote: “He speaks better English than our president. And our Vice President. And our Speaker of the House,’ attacking the oratorical skills of Kamala Harris and Nancy Pelosi as well.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s speech in Congress was welcomed by many on Twitter, with some commenting that his English may be better than Biden’s.
Callahan also took aim at Pennsylvania Senator-elect John Fetterman, suggesting that Zelensky’s military-inspired khaki outfit was superior to Fetterman’s famously laid-back work attire.
Earlier this month, Fetterman’s own wife mocked The New York Times’ decision to list Fetterman as one of the Most Stylish People of 2022, calling for a “recount.”

CNN’s Global Affairs analyst also praised the speech and considered how Zelenksy’s visit to Washington might have appeared to Putin.
She said: ‘Without a doubt, this speech, this venue, this bipartisan applause, it all gets under Putin’s skin. The chef’s kiss? That Zelensky is masterfully pronouncing it in English.
Kyle Poen, regional coordinator for Students for Life, made a similar comment: “Zelensky, since English is far from his primary language, speaks better than Biden.”
Dillon Thomas, a CBS journalist, said, “I know Americans who get paid to speak English on TV every day and they still have a hard time.”
