Zara McDermott hints she could follow in boyfriend Sam Thompson’s footsteps by signing up for I’m A Celebrity after he was crowned King Of The Jungle
He sent fans into a frenzy when he was crowned King Of The Jungle last year.
And Sam Thompson’s girlfriend Zara McDermott has hinted she could follow in his footsteps by signing up for I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
The Love Island star, 27, admitted it could be a struggle to ‘follow’ her boyfriend after he was named champion of the series.
Speaking to Gaby Roslin on the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show, Zara said: ‘Who knows, you never know what’s going to happen. I don’t know if I could watch his coronation. How could I ever follow that?’
Zara took part in Strictly Come Dancing while Sam flew to Australia to hit the jungle, and his best friend Pete Wicks flew out to support him.

The former Made In Chelsea star was crowned King Of The Jungle on the ITV show last year, and Zara noted she would struggle to ‘follow’ his win on the series
When asked how it felt to see him on screen, Zara added: ‘The Strictly ending and the jungle overlapped so I couldn’t go, but his best friend Pete went there. It was wonderful for them to have that moment.β
During his time in the jungle, Sam was joined by JLS star Marvin Humes, and soon shared his dream of performing with the entire band.
That dream became a reality when Sam took to the stage to sing with the group on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.
From then on, viewers were happy as many took to social media to say how happy it made them feel.
Discussing the viral moment, Zara told Gaby: ‘He hasn’t slept in two days. The adrenaline was through the roof. He was wired.
“His eyes were like ‘oh my god, what just happened’.” To do this, he had to take singing lessons and choreography all day long.
βHe got a singing coach to do that performance. I didn’t think he was that bad, I think he would be a good singer if he worked on it a little more.’
Zara added that if she and Sam decided to take the stage together, they would perform a duet of Shallow from Lady Gaga’s film A Star Is Born.

It comes after Zara clapped back at society’s expectations for women to get married and have children, saying: ‘Women are so much more than just children!’
She recently launched Rise clothing, which promises to cater to different body types, and signed an exclusive deal with Tesco F&F to sell the range.
During an interview with Hello! magazine, Zara was asked what the next steps were for her and Sam, and whether she would consider marriage.
Zara responded: βI think there is an expectation that people should get married, have children, this fairytale experience. Nowadays women are so much more than people to marry and have children with!
‘I am an independent career woman. I will do these things when I am ready, not when society tells me to do them. I don’t think relationships should be put in a box. I definitely don’t want kids anytime soon – right now I’m happy being selfish.
‘Sam and I hardly have time for each other these days! We are really happy the way we are and we love our little fur babies Albus and Cedric [their cats].’
Children would also mean less time with the couple’s best friend, Pete, who Zara happily shared and was at the top of her list for who to call when she was in trouble.
Sam and Zara’s relationship has gone from strength to strength since they got back together in 2020 after a brief split.
Fans were convinced an engagement announcement was imminent in February as the couple enjoyed a sun-soaked holiday in Dubai.
