A young fan crowd invaded Liverpool legends’ clash with Ajax and then took a selfie with Steven Gerrard.

Gerrard received a raucous reception at Anfield as he led a team of former Reds stars to take on their Ajax counterparts in a charity match in aid of the LFC Foundation.

Sven-Goran Eriksson was joined in the dugout by Ian Rush, John Barnes and John Aldridge as he fulfilled a lifelong ambition to coach the club after revealing his terminal cancer diagnosis in February.

However, the visitors were determined to spoil the party and Derk Boerrigter gave Ajax the lead after just two minutes.

Kiki Musampa doubled the Dutch lead, before Gregory Vignal halved the deficit for the home team after the break.

As Liverpool continued their search for an equalizer early in the second half, a young fan eluded the stewards and ran onto the pitch, forcing a stoppage of play.

The supporter immediately made his way towards Gerrard before embracing the Liverpool legend, receiving a big cheer from the fans in attendance.

Gerrard paused to take a selfie with the fan before the stewards intervened to direct him off the field.

Liverpool would regain control of the match after the incident, securing victory with goals from Nabil El Zhar and Fernando Torres.
