A young teenager fights for his life in the hospital after crashing his electric scooter into an oncoming car at a busy intersection.
The 13-year-old boy is in critical condition with “very serious head injury” following the crash at Alexandra Headland on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast on Tuesday night.
Initial reports indicate the boy was riding an electric scooter with a girl, also 13 traveling as a passenger eastbound along George Street when they collided with a silver Suzuki Vitara van traveling northbound along Mayfield Street.
The motorist and several bystanders provided first aid to the teens at the scene while they waited for emergency services to arrive.

The Mountain Creek boy was airlifted by LifeFlight to Brisbane’s Queensland Children’s Hospital.
The girl also sustained serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
The 34-year-old Suzuki Vitara motorist was not injured.
Matheus Castro was on his way home when he came across the scene of the accident on his street.
“There was a middle-aged man directing traffic and there were people lying on the sidewalk, right on the sidewalk or right next to it and I could see a pair of shoes at the top of George St,” he told The Courier Mail.
He has lived in the area for two years and expressed concern about increasing levels of local traffic.
It is against the law to carry a passenger on an e-scooter.
Witnesses and anyone with dashcam vision of the accident or the moments leading up to it are urged to come forward.

The young father continues to recover from his extensive injuries, which included two broken legs along with fractures to his face, neck and spine.
The Queensland government recently increased harsher penalties for electric scooter riders who break traffic rules as part of a safety campaign over the summer holiday period.
“We’ve seen a number of injuries, accidents and deaths involving e-scooters and it’s something we’ll be paying close attention to in the city and on the Gold and Sunshine Coasts over the festive period,” Queensland Acting Chief Superintendent Chris Stream said. .
A year-long trial in Victoria due to finish next month will run until the end of March while the impact is assessed.
This is despite the fact that e-scooters were involved in 252 crashes and riders received 827 tickets between December 1, 2021 and November 30, 2022.
