You CAN wear denim head to toe… as long as it’s not jeans!

Never mind skinnies and cut-offs, the way to wear denim this summer is in anything but jeans. From dresses to shirts, skirts and cardigans, the most popular pieces come in denim.

And they’re not just for throwing on sneakers on the weekend — stylish silhouettes, cuts and washes mean they’re elevated and seriously chic.

Denim took on a new and luxurious look on the SS23 catwalks. At Stella McCartney, indigo shirts were combined with leather shorts.

Chloe made denim trench coats, while Burberry threw it back to the 90s with ankle-length denim skirts.

I don’t need to tell you how easy it is to wear great jeans, but for anything else, I can’t think of anything as easy to put on as Jigsaw’s zip-up playsuit.

For something even more breezy, try a smocked dress, like Albaray’s.

Go for the 70s flair with suede clogs.

And the styling note is “head to toe,” so don’t be afraid to play matchy-matchy with separates.

The jacket from M&S, worn with a denim maxi, gives a fashionable take on everyday wear. Or try Albaray’s waistcoat and matching skirt.

If that feels too Britney Spears circa 2001, add a white tee or shirt.

Of course, denim can be worn for almost any dress code (it’s even been seen on the red carpet). A tailored jumpsuit is a fresh take on workwear.

Accessorize M&S’s belt version with sleek leather slides and a matching bag.

The darker the denim, the smarter the effect. Pair Boden’s indigo midi with a classic button-down and add loafers for a polished look.

As we will also see a lot of denim next season, this is a trend worth investing in.

I’m now wearing the all-in-one from 7 For All Mankind with Birkenstocks and will pair it with boots and a turtleneck in the fall.

And when the weather can’t decide, denim always fits. Baukjen’s layered midi pairs well with your trench coat and trainers, making tricky seasonal wear anything but blue.
