Yellowstone probably won’t return for season 5 this summer due to delays and the rumor that Kevin Costner is leaving

Yellowstone fans may have to wait even longer for the second half of Season 5 due to production delays and Kevin Costner’s rumored exit from the show.

The 68-year-old Golden Globe winner has reportedly asked Paramount Network executives to allow him to spend just one week filming the second half of Yellowstone’s fifth season.

In January, Paramount announced that Yellowstone would return with new episodes in the summer of 2023, but that now seems “unlikely,” according to People. com.

At PaleyFest on Saturday night, it was revealed by the cast in attendance that they had not been given a start date for filming.

DailyMail.com reached out to PaleyFest, Paramount and Taylor Sheridan, the show’s co-creator, for comment, but representatives didn’t immediately comment on the show’s production status or Costner’s place on it.

Wendy Moinz, who plays Lynette Perry on the show, shared her thoughts with Yahoo Entertainment Saturday night on the red carpet.

‘I have no news to report. I just know Taylor writes, and we know he’s a prolific writer, and I’m excited to see it when the time comes.”

Another star of the show, Josh Lucas, who plays a younger version of Costner’s character in flashbacks, was asked at the event if he thinks the show could continue in a world without Costner’s character.

The Sweet Home Alabama actor, 51, said he thinks Sheridan “has always been planning for Kevin to die and multiple characters to die.” And so you know that that’s just… the evolution of what the ranch is.

“That’s why when you see the cemetery, and you see Elsa’s names, and you see Jacob’s names, and you see these names, I think of course it’s going to evolve and change. And I think that’s what hopefully people will really like when it comes.”

Dawn Olivieri, who plays Sarah Atwood on Yellowstone, opened up for People about Costner’s future in the series.

‘I’ve already been killed once. I come back to life. It happens to the best of us. I don’t know what will happen to him. I hope I get the chance to work with him. I do’

She added, “But I can’t put any money on Taylor writing something that we all hope happens. If you hope [for] something, you bet he’ll write the opposite.’

Costner, Sheridan, and most of the main cast of the popular Paramount series eventually dropped out of the convention at the last minute, further fueling speculation about the main star’s departure.

Fans of the show who paid $100 for a ticket to the event, expecting to see the star-studded cast at Hollywood’s Dolby Theater, were disappointed.

Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, Luke Grimes, Kelsey Asbille, Wes Bentley, Gil Birmingham and Jacki Weaver were listed as those who attended the screening and Q&A panel. But none of them showed up.

It was reported main cast was unable to attend due to scheduling conflicts.

Costner, who recently won a Golden Globe for his performance as John Dutton on the show, is now directing and starring in his own multi-part Western epic, Horizon, which he co-wrote with Jon Baird. It has been picked up by Warner Bros Pictures and New Line Cinemas.

A new spin-off series starring Matthew McConaughey will continue regardless of whether Costner decides to stick with the original series or not, Paramount president and CEO Chris McCarthy has said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The nature or time frame of a McConaughey spin-off has not yet been revealed.

On Saturday night, Josh Lucas, Wendy Moinz, Mo Brings Plenty (“Mo”) and Dawn Olivieri (Sarah Atwood) were the only cast members to show up at the festival.

Fans expecting to see the stars at Saturday night’s event took to Twitter to express their frustrations over the ghosting.

Another asked, “Will there be refunds for #yellowstone #PaleyFest, we drove two hours to the cast you said would be here. What a joke and a rip off.’

As Deadline reports, the success of prequel series 1883 and 1923, as well as expectations for upcoming shows, has made the studio less dependent on the hit series as it was just two years ago.

1883, starring country music stars Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and Sam Elliott, premiered in December 2021 and told the story of how the Duttons came to own the sprawling Dutton Ranch in Montana.

The following year followed 1923, starring Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford. The show returns for a second and final season, detailing the family’s struggles during Western expansion, Prohibition, and the Great Depression.
