Yellowstone fans go wild over theory a scene from the 1883 prequel could prophesize the show’s finale

With Yellowstone’s highly anticipated return on Sunday, fans have been digging into a theory that could be prophetic for the series finale.

Yellowstone has been a huge hit for Paramount Network and even spawned two spin-offs, 1883 and 1923.

The first spin-off, 1883, follows the Dutton family as they discover what would be the beginnings of their sprawling Montana ranch.

The spinoff’s finale features a scene in which John Dutton’s (Kevin Costner) great-great-grandfather James Dillard Dutton (Tim McGraw) has a fateful conversation with a Crow tribal elder named Spotted Eagle (Graham Greene).

Many believe that this brief conversation foreshadows what will happen when Yellowstone comes to an end.

The spinoff’s finale features a scene in which John Dutton’s (Kevin Costner) great-great-grandfather James Dillard Dutton (Tim McGraw) has a fateful conversation with a Crow tribal elder named Spotted Eagle (Graham Greene).

1883 followed James Dillard Dutton, his wife Margaret (Faith Hill) and their children Elsa (Isabel May) and John Sr. (Audie Rick) as they headed west from Tennessee after the Civil War.

Elsa was injured when she was hit by an arrow in the penultimate episode, and in the finale her father James realizes she is going to die.

With no doctor to help her, James decides to drive with his teenage daughter, saying, “Where she dies, we will stay.”

He gets a suggestion from Spotted Eagle, who tells him, “I know a place for you.” You go through that pass and follow the river south. As a boy I hunted that valley. The winters are cruel, but the summers are rich and a man who plans can prosper. And you look like a man who makes plans.”

When James asks what the name of the valley is, Spotted Eagle tells him he doesn’t know the word in English, but says, “When you die, that’s where you go.”

James suggests ‘Heaven’, but Spotted Eagle says it’s not that ‘Paradise’, as James adds, which Spotted Eagle confirms… before the prophetic warning.

“But you know this: In seven generations, my people will rise up and take it back from you,” says Spotted Eagle.

James Dutton responds, “Seven generations from now, you can have it,” before hitting the road with Elsa and stopping on the land that would become the sprawling Yellowstone Dutton Ranch.

There are multiple records of the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch surviving on Yellowstone for seven generations.

If this prophecy is true, it could mean the end of the Dutton family’s inheritance on that vast tract of land.

Interestingly enough, Tate (Brecken Merrill), the son of Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes), is half-Indian on his mother Monica’s (Kelsey Asbile) side, so perhaps he could be an integral part of this theory.

Fans will surely find out when the second half of season 5 returns with the first of six new episodes airing on Sunday, November 13 on Paramount Network.
