An IT glitch at Australia’s biggest supermarket chain has thrown frustrated after-work shoppers into chaos.
Cashiers were unable to process the groceries of customers at several Woolworths’ Metro stores on Thursday afternoon and in some cases outlets have had to close.
Some of the supermarket giant’s point-of-sale systems are not working correctly and many shoppers have been unable to complete their purchases.

On social media it was reported customers at the chain’s Pyrmont store were unable to buy anything and it had to be closed to the public.
Reports of IT problems affecting customers began after 4pm on social media.
‘Wow. Woolworths IT just crashed: Australia wide. You can’t buy a thing,’ one man wrote on Twitter at 4.18pm.
Daily Mail Australia approached Woolworths for comment.
