A South Carolina mother has covered her yard with signs, flags and ornaments to attract two powerful homeowners associations, who she says are harassing her.
Anne Marie’s home in Little River is one of six homes on a tract of land between Carolina Crossing and the Waccamaw Management HOAs, but is not managed by either.
She claims that since she moved here, she has been harassed by the Homeowners Association, their administrators and neighbors over trivial matters. Now, however, she has received anonymous death threats from an unknown source about the state of her lawn.
“A lot of people in the neighborhood found it very funny and even tried to contribute,” she posted on TikTok.
“There are people in both HOA communities who are angry about it.”
The house in Little River is one of six houses in a neighborhood between two Homeowners Associations (HOAs).
Owner Anne Marie claims the situation escalated after she took her camper out of storage
The homeowner who posts under the tag reallyyourannemariereveals that the situation escalated when she parked her camper on the lawn in late June.
“In short, my trailer was pulled out of storage for repairs,” she told her followers. “We were there less than 24 hours before our lovely neighbors in the Homeowners Association notified the county.”
“Of course they said it’s no problem to leave it. But this isn’t the first time we’ve had the county here because of reports of harassment from the HOA.”
Within days, she began expanding the collection of curiosities in her garden to include a group of 10 plastic flamingos, a toy bulldog in bondage gear that lifted its leg, and a Pride flag.
Soon after, a kiddie pool, a barbecue and a “redneck dream catcher” made from a wooden wreath of beer cans and underwear, along with a homemade sign that read “Proudly Non-HOA” followed.
Since then, flags supporting both Donald Trump and Joe Biden have hung side by side on her porch and a family of garden gnomes has appeared on the lawn.
“I got death threats on my voicemail and we tried to get a restraining order, but that was a mess in itself,” she revealed.
Little River is located in Horry County, which accounted for nearly a quarter of all complaints about HOAs in South Carolina last year, according to the Sun News.
And Marie’s colorful protest received a lot of support from her supporters who feel that they are victims of the interference of the Owners’ Association.

Anne Marie does not discriminate on party lines between those she is prepared to offend
“We were the first house outside the Homeowners Association,” one wrote. “We got so many ‘phone calls’ about our unapproved fence, the year-round pool, the fire pit, and the trampoline.
“My neighbors all have property restrictions that say they can’t have farm animals and a bunch of other stuff,” another added. “We have 13 chickens, including a rooster.”
But Marie also faced criticism from people who saw her as spoiled and antisocial.
“This is such bizarre behavior. I can’t imagine intentionally causing problems in my neighborhood,” one person wrote.
“It’s bizarre behavior to shoot back at people who think they’re going to harass me until I do what they want with my property?” she replied. “In what world? Besides, most of the neighborhood thinks it’s great.”
“This is weird and people like you are the reason our world is falling apart,” claimed another.
“People who know their rights and exercise them?” she shot back. “I’m sure it’s starting to break down your vision of the world. A world where offended feelings don’t outweigh rights.”
Local news channel WBTW couldn’t find a single critic willing to appear on camera, but neighbor Maria Morales suggested that Marie could ease tensions by talking to them more than TikTok.
“That trailer was moved there a week or two ago, but they don’t really talk to anyone else,” she added.
“I mean, technically they don’t have a homeowners association, so I guess they have a say in what they do with their house.”

But she also faced a flood of criticism from people who saw her as spoiled and antisocial.
Marie’s latest video has been viewed 2.2 million times and there is a sign in her garden thanking objectors for their ‘concern about my caravan’.
“No definitive date has yet been set for the removal,” the report said.
“I’m starting to set up some things for today,” she wrote recently. “I thought we’d start slow and build up, but two ideas already, a million more to come.”
And she seems determined to enjoy her decorative disobedience.
“Ultimately, this was all just fun and showing that no one is going to take away our rights to our property and what we’re going to do with it,” she said.
