Paramount Network just released a new episode of Yellowstone on Sunday night, with fans theorizing about the future of this beloved show.
The network has long claimed that season 5 would be the last, with main character John Dutton (Kevin Costner) being killed off in the season 5B premiere.
Sunday night’s new episode featured the third shock death in the past four episodes, with Colby Mayfield (Denim Richards) dying in a freak horse accident.
While that death resonated with the show’s fanbase, many also noticed a subtle but telling hint that this might not be the show’s final season after all.
During a preview of next week’s penultimate episode of season 5, the announcer said there was “only one episode left until the season finale of Yellowstone,” which shocked fans because he said “season finale” and not “series finale” like most expected. .
Given the show’s enormous popularity, it wouldn’t be too surprising to hear that the show continued in some form, although many thought it would be in spin-offs.

There was a Yellowstone spin-off in development with Matthew McConaughey that was announced in 2023, although the show switched gears a bit.
Now called The Madison starring Michelle Pfeiffer, it follows a New York City family who moves from New York City to Montana to check out a ranch.
There is no indication yet whether that ranch is in fact the Yellowstone-Dutton ranch, or what connection it may have to Yellowstone.
Still, fans were quite surprised that what was previously announced as the show’s final season might not be so final after all.

Paramount has also developed another Yellowstone spin-off called 6666, which will be set on the Four Sixes ranch that was featured on the show.
There are also rumors of a Yellowstone spin-off focusing on Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) and Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly), but that too has not been confirmed.
Yellowstone airs its penultimate episode on Sunday, December 8, and the finale airs on Sunday, December 15 on the Paramount Network.
