Artists at Sydney tattoo studio MARKD have revealed that the one tattoo people should never get is a partner’s name. One said it was bad luck, while the other said it was a “curse.”

The question: “How do you feel about couples wanting to get their partner’s name tattooed?” was posed to each of MARKD’s artists in a series of videos posted on TikTok.

One artist, Will, said you shouldn’t get a partner’s name unless you’re married or have kids together.

“If not, it’s bad luck,” he added.

Another artist admitted to writing his wife’s name on his arm, but warned it’s “a pretty bad idea,” while a third said it was “taboo.”

“Don’t do it, it’s like a curse, (you’ll) probably break up the next week if you do it.” If you’ve stuck with it then good for you, but I wouldn’t recommend it,” said artist Harley.

In a second clampartist Angel agreed, saying they also “recommend” getting a couple’s tattoo.

“I see that as double money, they will definitely come back for a cover. It’s really not going to last, don’t do it,’ she joked.

“If you do, at least I’ll know I’m tattooing you again to cover you up.”

Artist Ray supported Angel’s claim in a third video saying that he has covered most of the couple name tattoos he has done.

“I’ve tattooed six couples’ names and I’ve covered four of them,” he said.

The clips have collectively been viewed more than 2.5 million times and many viewers agreed that getting a loved one’s name tattooed is a no-no.

“My dad got my mom’s name and they got divorced, so he got a coffin over her name,” one person recalled.

“I’m married and I won’t even do it. My husband knows and agrees. Just don’t do it at all,’ said another.

“Even if you have kids, it doesn’t mean you’ll be together for the rest of your lives,” a third warned.

Many parents agreed that the only name they would consider getting tattooed at the time would be that of their children.

But not everyone was convinced, as some were all for a few tattoos.

“My father has my mother’s whole face on his arm,” said one man.

‘No, it’s not a curse. My husband got my name as his first tattoo after a year of being together. We’ve been married now, five years together. Bye,’ replied a second.

“My boyfriend did that a month after he dated someone has been married for 10 years,” another wrote.

“Have a little one and when they leave it’s easy to change it to something else,” someone else suggested.
