Why Sydney smells of smoke this morning as a thick cloud covers the city
Sydney has woken up to a haze of thick smoke covering the sky after firefighters responded to the blaze over the weekend.
A number of burns that were scheduled to take place on Friday were postponed and moved to Sunday.
The smoke led to fire alarms being activated throughout the city.
It has also affected visibility at Sydney Airport, with motorists also warned to be careful on the roads during morning rush hour.
More hazard mitigation burns are planned for Monday, with authorities warning smoky smells could linger in Sydney and the NSW central coast until mid-week.

“Smoke from the burns is likely to settle over much of Sydney on Sunday afternoon and Monday morning,” said a statement from the NSW Rural Fire Service.
“Smoke is expected to linger over Sydney and the Central Coast early next week.”
Health authorities are urging residents to stay indoors and avoid vigorous outdoor activities.
More to come.
