Manchester United take on their bitter rivals Leeds United on Wednesday… but why is the game NOT on TV, but Sunderland vs Fulham instead? And how can you follow the Premier League action?

  • Rivals Manchester United and Leeds play Wednesday night at Old Trafford
  • They will also go head-to-head just four days later on Sunday at Elland Road.
  • However, Wednesday’s game will not be televised live in the UK.

Manchester United and Leeds meet twice this week in two crucial Premier League clashes but, to the dismay of fans, the first meeting on Wednesday will not be televised in the UK.

The bitter rivals were first scheduled to play at Old Trafford in September last year, before it was postponed and eventually pushed back to February 8.

United and Leeds will play again on Sunday, this time at Elland Road. American manager Chris Armas, former assistant coach to Ralf Rangnick at Old Trafford, is currently in charge of Leeds for both games.

Leeds are without a manager at the moment following the sacking of Jesse Marsch, but are in desperate need of points on the board, with just three separating them in 17th place and Southampton bottom of the table.

United, meanwhile, looking to force their way into title contention, currently sit eight points behind Arsenal, though they have played one more game. However, fans will not be able to watch the game on television and sports mail explain why below.

Why was the game postponed?

The clash between Manchester United and Leeds at Old Trafford was originally scheduled for September 18.

However, it was postponed following the sad passing of Queen Elizabeth II with her funeral taking place the day after the clash.

Tottenham’s match with Leicester City and Arsenal’s trip to Brentford did go ahead, but less guarding was required for the matches.

Police have already stretched out for the funeral, and numbers of forces from across the country, including Greater Manchester, were recruited to help. Therefore, the match between United and Leeds was postponed.

It wasn’t until January that the rearranged clash, on February 8, was confirmed by the Premier League, with the date only being recorded when both teams won their FA Cup fourth round matches without the need for a replay.

Why is Manchester United vs Leeds not on TV?

For football fans looking to catch the action on Wednesday night, it’s the FA Cup fourth round replay between Sunderland and Fulham that they’ll find on TV.

However, the Premier League clash between United and Leeds, which is supposed to attract higher viewing figures, will not be televised.

That’s because the original match had not been chosen as the UK televised match, with Sky showing Brentford vs Arsenal instead. For that reason, the reorganized party cannot be shown on television.

Leeds' September trip to Manchester United was postponed due to a lack of police resources ahead of the Queen's funeral.
