White House Plumbers trailer shows Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux as Watergate masterminds

The Watergate break-in and the controversy surrounding it will be told from a whole new perspective in the new trailer for HBO’s White House Plumbers.

HBO released a series finale trailer on Thursday, which also revealed that the five-episode series will premiere Monday, May 1 at 9 p.m. ET.

The series stars Woody Harrelson, who hosted Saturday Night Live late last month, as E. Howard Hunt and Justin Theroux as G. Gordon Liddy, the political spoilers responsible for the Watergate break-in and, ultimately, resignation. of President Richard Nixon.

The series is adapted from Egil Krogh and Matthew Krogh’s 2007 book Integrity from creators Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck (Veep, What Men Want).

Both Harrelson and Theroux serve as executive producers on the series along with David Mandel, who directed all five episodes, along with Frank Rich, David Bernad, Gregg Fienberg, Len Amato and Ruben Fleischer.

The trailer opens with a sleeping Howard being awakened by his wife Dorothy (Lena Headey), telling him that the phone call for him is from the White House.

In the other vein is Egil Krogh (Rich Sommer), who was the head of the White House Special Investigations Unit that tracked down the press leaks from within the Nixon administration…with his operatives known as ‘Plumbers’. ‘ to stop leaks.

Krogh tells him, ‘Howard, the president asked for a real son of a bitch to handle this Pentagon leak,’ referring to the infamous Pentagon Papers.

‘What do you need?’ Howard says, when he sees him walking with Krogh, who tells him: ‘I want you to meet Gordon Liddy, the toughest guy I know. He will put his hand in a candle flame.

The trailer shows Liddy doing this same feat in a restaurant, telling her dinner companions, ‘I don’t back down. I don’t break.

Howard asks: ‘What’s the catch?’ Krogh replies: ‘There are none. He suffers third degree burns every time.

John Dean (Domhnall Gleeson) tells Howard and Gordon, “Now they work for the Chairman’s Re-election Committee,” as Howard and Gordon are seen embracing.

Your new mission is to make sure he wins this election. We will intercept confidential information from the radical left,’ Dean tells them.

Back at home, Howard’s wife, Dorothy, asks, ‘What’s the plan?’ Howard replies, ‘We’re going to attack the Democratic National Committee at Watergate.’

“Howard, that’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard,” Dorothy replies before leaving the room.

They are seen breaking into the Watergate, but their plan immediately runs into trouble as they have the wrong tools to get in.

Jeb Magruder (Ike Barinholtz) says, ‘Someone’s got to fix this mess,’ while Gordon asks, ‘Do you want us to go in a fourth time?’

‘Wait, what do you mean a fourth time?’ Jeb asks, as Gordon brushes him off saying, “Nothing, spy talk.”

Gordon comes home to find his wife Fran in bed, asks her how her day was, and he says, “There’s a chance I’m going to jail.”

He sits up in bed and says, ‘Wait, what?’ as we see Dean telling Gordon, ‘I really hope you understand the scope and scale of this.

Dorothy tells her husband: ‘Tell those spineless two-faced politicians that loyalty is a two-way street.

Another shot shows Gordon’s daughter, Grace (Amaryllis Miller), asking from the back of the family car, “Did you just use a fun family outing to cover up some spy stuff?”

Gordon is seen sending stacks of cash through a shredder while an incredulous Jeb asks, “Why are you shredding money?”

Howard says: ‘We are not bulls. We are patriots acting in the best interest of this country,’ though his daughter Kevan (Kiernan Shipka) responds, ‘What about the best interests of your family?’

The trailer shows shots of all of the aforementioned characters along with Kathleen Turner as DC lobbyist Dita Beard.

Gordon is seen saying, “They’re trying to break us,” while Gordon and Howard are seen in a bar, as Gordon shares an insight about the president.

White House Plumbers debuts with the first episode on May 1, which will be available to stream on HBO Max.
