Westfield Bondi Junction stabbing: Dawn Singleton breaks her silence to pay an emotional tribute

The sister of Westfield Bondi Junction stabbing victim Dawn Singleton has revealed how videos of her murdered sibling laughing helped her through the immense tragedy.

Sally Singleton-Hawach, who together with 25-year-old Dawn is a daughter of advertising giant John Singleton, paid a heartfelt tribute on April 13 to her sister who was one of the six stabbing victims of knifeman Joel Cauchi.

It comes as NSW Premier Chris Minns and state MPs officially paid tribute to the victims of those who lost their lives in the horrific atrocities.

Coogee MP Marjorie O’Neill, whose eastern Sydney electorate includes Westfield, was among those who paid a tearful tribute in parliament on Tuesday.

Dawn Singleton, 25, was one of five victims of the stabbing death of knifeman Joel Cauchi at Bondi Junction shopping center on April 13

In a post on social media, Ms Singleton-Hawach said she shared photos of Dawn growing up and said her sister “embodied love” and ‘Always spoke with such kind words… wwith a smile that warmed all our hearts’.

“And I play that laugh repeatedly in my videos,” Ms. Singleton-Hawach wrote.

‘You were so loved. I love you, little sister. Until we meet again’.

Fashion worker Dawn will marry her high school sweetheart, NSW police officer Ashley Wildey, in the coming months.

Before Dawn became a victim of the stabbing, she had purchased her wedding dress and sent “save the date” invitations to loved ones and friends.

Dawn was one of Singleton’s three daughters from his marriage to Julie Martin.

He has a total of eight children.

In the NSW Parliament Ms O’Neill said the raw shock of the tragedy still reverberated through the community in which she lived represents.

“Not a day has gone by since April 13 that I haven’t met someone who was there during the incident and who would normally have been there at the time,” she said.

“Any one of us could have been struck down, which is why our community takes such great care to support the victims of this horrific act.”

Family and friends of the stabbing victims watched from the public gallery as Ms O’Neill was among MPs who tearfully paid tribute to the tragic events.

Ms Neill said with sadness that she had seen resilience among her constituents.

“There is more light than darkness in our community,” she said.

“Amid the grief, moments of light have emerged as our community has come together to remember the lives lost.”

Vaucluse MP Kellie Sloan, whose electorate also controls part of the suburb of Bondi, said the memories of those lost would be cherished.

‘There was a mother taking her little girl to buy a birthday present, there was a bride-to-be preparing for her wedding, a young mother shopping with her baby and students celebrating the end of exams ,’ she said.

‘Beautiful hopeful lives with so much potential, so cruelly cut short.’

Jade Young, Ashlee Good, Faraz Tahir, Pikria Darchia and Yixuan Cheng were also killed when Cauchi stalked the shopping complex looking for victims.

Twelve people were also rushed to hospital that day, including nine-month-old baby Harriet, Mrs Good’s daughter who lost her life.
