Waze can tempt you away from Google Maps with these super useful driving alerts

Waze is receiving a nice quality of life update that will help you drive around more safely and keep you informed of recent road changes.

The patch is expected to be released on Android and iOS devices around the world, but the rollout won’t happen all at once. Instead, the six features will be released in pieces over the coming months. It’s a bit complicated, but once you break it the announcement downit all makes sense.

When it comes to safety, the app informs you in advance about any emergency vehicles on your route. This way you know when you need to change lanes or take a detour. This tool is currently making its way to users in the US, Canada, Mexico and France, and Waze promises that more countries will follow soon.

Our favorite update of all is Waze, which decides it will shout out upcoming changes to the speed limits in case they’re about to drop suddenly. It’s a pretty handy tool if you want to avoid getting caught in a speed trap. Third, the developers expand hazard detection to include speed bumps, sharp turns and toll booths. The speed limit warnings and hazard detection upgrade are currently being rolled out to all users.

This next set of features is expected to launch soon.

Normally, when someone opens a navigation app, they want to get to their destination as quickly as possible. Well, later this month you’ll have the opportunity to take more scenic routes. It may not be the fastest way to get home, but at least you have the option to follow your favorite path.

Most drivers agree that finding a parking space in a city can be a complete nightmare. To make finding the right spot less stressful, Waze has partnered with software company Flash to provide information about parking garages. The app tells you how much it costs to park at a location, whether it is covered or open to the elements, whether there is valet parking, and more.

The announcement states that the new data feed has a limited release. It will provide information on a select group of 30,000 parking garages in major cities in the United States and Canada.

The latter function teaches people how to navigate a roundabout. Waze says they will indicate when to enter, when to change lanes and “where to exit.” Android users will receive the roundabout tool later this month, but iPhone owners will have to wait until later this year to get the same upgrade.

We reached out to Google, Waze’s parent company, to ask if there are any plans for future expansions and if it will add the same features to the app’s webpage. This story will be updated at a later date.
