Sydney Harbor has been transformed into an extravaganza of light and color as the Vivid 2024 festival kicks off with a bang.
The public was treated to a fireworks show on Friday evening to start the three-week cultural treat.
“The bright lights of Vivid Sydney are officially on,” said NSW Premier Chris Minns.
“Over the next three weeks, Sydney will be showcasing the magical lights, art and fun of Vivid Sydney.”
“There’s something for all the family, so I encourage everyone to come along and make the most of Vivid Sydney this year,” he added.
The 14th year has the theme ‘Humanity’, with works of art that focus on a universal search for meaning and purpose.

“Since 2009, Vivid Sydney has been a global platform showcasing our vibrant culture, vibrant nightlife and creative talents,” Minister John Graham said.
‘Vivid Sydney is going from strength to strength in its 14th year, showing the world our colorful creative side. Vibrant Sydney shows the world that we have big dreams.”
‘Tonight we start with 23 days of light, 23 days of music, ideas and food. 23 days of shared experiences. Over the next 23 days, Sydney will be beautiful during the day and vibrant at night.”
Spectators can enjoy the Opera House’s sails wrapped in a projected patchwork of fabric designed by Australian artist and 2023 Archibald Prize winner Julia Gutman.
A 40-kilometre-long rainbow laser emanating from the Sydney Tower will be visible across the city.
Other highlights of this year’s festival include Nest, a large-scale circular projection on the Stargazer Lawn and PORTAL, a 15 meter high installation framing the Barangaroo Headland.

Visitors will be pleased to hear that the infamous Vivid Sydney 2024 drone show will return for three nights only on June 8, June 9 and June 15.
More than 700 drones will be on display during the Love in the Air show.
