A family’s school vacation was abruptly interrupted when a large, wild animal roamed into their mansion and caused a bloody mess.
Alexander Hill was surprised after finishing a work meeting from his home in Alphington in Melbourne’s north west when he realized there was a wild deer below.
Mr Hill said he found out after seeing half a dozen missed calls and texts from his neighbors alerting him to the potentially dangerous situation.
Calls were subsequently made for Parks Victoria and the police to rescue Mr Hill and his family, who were now held hostage in their own home.
Alexander Hill was at work when he checked his phone to see his neighbors trying to tell him about his new guest.
“Today’s text was ‘DAG IN THE HOUSE! BLOOD EVERYWHERE!”‘ Mr Hill wrote online
Mr. Hill peered down his stairs to see the male deer, which he filmed on his phone and through a security camera he had installed on the first floor.
“Today’s text was ‘DAG IN THE HOUSE! BLOOD EVERYWHERE!”‘ Mr Hill later posted online.
The deer saw his reflection and decided to run the handsome looking man through the window.
“Went through the window, the curtain fell down and the poor man got stuck in a white box.”
In what ended up being a two-hour ordeal, Mr. Hill discovered that “not every ranger has a calming dart handy.”
As he waited upstairs, his children began to notice the beast’s foul odor, but they handled the situation “quite well.”
“The kids said it smelled pretty bad, they were upstairs and said it smelled awful,” Mr Hill said ABC news.
After a long battle, a ranger simply opened the door, hoping the deer would find its own way out.
“In seconds he was gone and out the front door,” said Mr. Hill.
“He probably jumped 20 meters over this fence by the river and disappeared.”
While the sight of deer in the city is not a rare occurrence – wild deer are occasionally seen exploring the countryside in Melbourne’s suburbs – rangers told Mr Hill that the situation he was in was strange even to them.

“I was letting some tradies in and all of a sudden a shadow comes streaking past and the tradie said to me ‘that’s a damn deer,'” the homeowner told the Herald Sun at the time.
Another was seen much closer to the CBD in 2021, when onlookers in Fitzroy marveled at the sight of a wild animal so far away from its natural habitat.
As Melbourne went through one of its longest lockdowns, the deer made its way down Smith St – which was already the coolest street in the world.
Unfortunately, Vets for Compassion were eventually called in to assist in the rescue and had to euthanize the deer.
