At the time, Vick claimed the judges had damaged her self-confidence and damaged her self-confidence, but said she only respected experts because they are “the best in their field.”

Reflecting on her time on the show in a new interview, she began: “If I did it now it would be fine because I can handle those situations. Besides, I went home alone; I wasn’t with anyone (at that time).

‘Sometimes you have to let go, and I had no sounding board. I was at a time in my life when I was very insecure. I didn’t think I was good enough, I wasn’t kind to myself and I think that showed.’

Explaining her gratitude for that “chapter in her life,” Vick continued, “You get so caught up in that bubble that you forget it’s an entertainment show that people love. I was so naive around that time; I was so stressed, nervous and worried.

“I was thinking about everything: ‘Are people going to think this dance is too sexy?’ Is this choice of music too shocking for older viewers?’

‘I tried to overcomplicate what wasn’t complicated. It’s just a dance show; it’s just a bit of fun…something had to be the trigger (to start therapy) and it was, so I’m grateful for that chapter.”

Vick went on to explain how proud she was of her relationship with her family and husband, Calvin Harris.

She added, “I think I can expand it a little bit further and also include the relationship I have with myself and the way I’ve built it over the years.

“It came from a dark place of not liking myself and not speaking kindly to myself. Now I know my worth.’

Discussing where she is now in her career, the DJ concluded: “Over the past few years I have really relaxed into my work. At first it felt like there were fewer roles, so you were competing with your peers.

“The truth is, there’s actually room for all of us. I gave myself a good time and if you’re having a good time, you’ll do better. I think the truth is I just had a blast.”
