An Oklahoma homeowner faced an attempted burglary when he tried to leave her home, struggling with a backpack full of stolen goods.

Cristina Beyers, a retired lawyer, was returning to her home in Bethany after a doctor’s appointment on Monday when she came face to face with the intruder, reported News 9.

She feared the burglar, identified as 64-year-old Timothy Chappell, might have stolen her gun, so she ran after him.

‘The only thing I could think of is that he can’t leave with that. If he has it, he can’t leave,” Beyers said.

‘I saw the light come on in the room, I knew I had turned off all my lights. I called out who’s here and he came out.’

She said: ‘He said, ‘Ma’am, I just tracked the person who broke into your house.’ So my brain says, ‘Now I have two in the house.'”

The altercation was captured on Beyer’s Ring camera and she can be seen grabbing the man’s backpack as he runs through the porch.

Beyers can be heard screaming for help as the two struggle over the bag and fall to the ground.

Her daughter has access to the camera and called 911 after seeing the fight.

β€œYes, um, my mom is home and on my Ring camera she just got attacked by a man,” Beyer’s daughter said during the phone call.

A car driving past the altercation heard the cries for help and stopped to check on Beyers while Chappell escaped.

‘He stopped to check if everything was OK and I asked him to follow the man. β€œI don’t know his name, but he was a blessing,” she said.

“Your adrenaline kicks in, it just does, and you do what you need to do at that moment.”

Beyers said: ‘I was in pain, it was difficult for me to move.’

Police found Chappell behind a building down the street and arrested him. They also linked him to a car burglary that same day.
