Millions of users have been affected by a massive internet outage that has affected Verizon Fios coverage on the East Coast.
Reports of outages flared between midnight and 2 a.m. EST, prompting many complaints on social media.
A Verizon spokesperson confirmed in response to a user from Ashburn, Virginia: “There is an outage or network maintenance impacting your area. We don’t have full details yet.
‘We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We are trying to get all the information from our networking team so we can provide you all with an update.”
More than 40,000 cases were reported early this morning, compared to less than 100 before the peak.
Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Alexandria and Washington were among the most reported locations.

Reports started to peak around noon EST (5 a.m. GMT, photo).
Verizon acknowledged the problem on social media today
Fifty-three percent of users reported problems with 5G Home Internet, while 33 percent had problems with landline.
Fourteen percent reported a total service outage.
Problems were also commonly reported in Richmond, Virginia Beach, Baltimore, Arlington and Los Angeles.
Newsweek reported that ‘millions’ of people had experienced disruptions early on Tuesday morning.
To troubleshoot problems with your service, Verizon recommends initially restarting your router and resetting your ONT battery.
In response to a complaint about outages on the “entire East Coast,” a spokesperson said at 3:40 a.m. EST: “There are several reports coming out of your area right now about service issues.
“We do not yet have an estimated restoration time, but we are working to restore services as quickly as possible.”
