A swimmer has died after being pulled from the water at a popular beach.

The 73-year-old woman had been swimming at South Valla Beach in Valla, on the north coast of New South Wales, around 5pm on Saturday.

It is believed that he suffered a medical episode before drowning.

The 73-year-old woman had been swimming in South Valla Beach (pictured) around 5 p.m. Saturday when she is believed to have suffered a medical episode.

The emergency services went to the place where the paramedics tried unsuccessfully to revive the woman.

The police said they would prepare a report for the coroner.

It comes after one man was killed and two hospitalized in a major rescue operation at Cronulla Beach in south Sydney last weekend.

Surf Life Saving NSW director of lifesaving Joel Wiseman urged swimmers to be careful when entering the water.

“We are experiencing one of our biggest summers with large numbers of rescues, and our volunteers have put in a lot of effort to try to keep people safe along the coast,” he said.

The caution comes as warm temperatures along the country’s east coast drew large crowds to the beach on Saturday.

Sydneysiders crowded along the shorelines as the mercury hit 29C.

Similar conditions are forecast for the city on Sunday with the southern temperature dropping by a couple of degrees.
